Walter J. Bennett, 57, of Chula Vista, died Thursday [January 5, 1983] at a local hospital.

A painter, he retired from federal government employment after 30 years.

He lived in the South Bay area 33 years, moving to San Diego with his sons in September, 1982.

He was a native of Illinois, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II.

Survivors include his sons, Cary J. and David P., both of San Diego.

Services were held Friday at the Humphrey –Chula Vista Mortuary. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Historian’s note: Walter J. Banaszkiewicz changed his surname to Bennett following World War II.
