R. Curtis Darnell, 72, of Schererville, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, December 8, 1993. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; four sons, Corky (Carol) Darnell of Crown Point, George Darnell of Schererville, James “Bear” Darnell of Schererville and Dave (Pat) Darnell of Highland; two daughters, Joan (Dean) Dewes of Lowell and Marjorie (Rick) Kiefer of Hobart; 12 grandchildren, Mike, Tom, Joe, Brian, Jim, Sarah, Kimberly, David, Marc, Becky, Dawn and Samantha; two brothers, Clyde (Stella) Darnell and Robert (Thelma) Darnell, both of North Judson, Indiana. Preceded in death by son, Gerry in 1978.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 11th at the Kuiper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Theodore Mens officiating. Burial at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. Friends may meet with the family Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Rd. (2 blks. So. Ridge Rd.), Highland.
Mr. Darnell was retired from Thrall Car Company; a member of the American Legion Post #777 of Indianapolis and the VFW #1-4000 of Kansas City, Missouri; a former Deputy Town Marshall in the early 1950s; former Boy Scout Troop Master of #39 of Highland; member of the famous U.S. Marine Raiders Third Battalion in World War II and a member of the U.S. Marine Raider Association.
