Prayers for Edward John Fischer, 74, of Rolling Meadows, will be said at 9:15 a.m. Monday, at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights. Mass will follow at 10 a.m., at St. Colette Church, 3900 Meadow Drive, Rolling Meadows.
Born Oct. 3, 1923, in Chicago, he died Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997, at Northwest Community Healthcare Center. Burial will be in the family plot.
Mr. Fischer had retired in 1985 from District 214 as High School Administrator. He was also an artist, having graduated with both his bachelors and masters degrees from the Art Institute of Chicago. A veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Marine Corps’ Carlson’s Raiders which served in the Pacific Theater.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 48 years, Irene F. (nee Fachter), whom he married on Dec. 11, 1948; loving daughters, Lynn (Craig) Smetko of La Grange and Wendy (David) McKinney of Palatine; loved grandchildren, Lauren, Scott, Matthew and Patrick; and fond sister, Betty Stone of California.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
