DE PERE, Wis. – A memorial service in tribute to Pfc. Ervin Harmer, 21, Marine Corps Reserve, who was killed in action on Guam July 23 [1944], was held during morning worship Sunday at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Several boys in training at St. Norbert College, servicemen home on leave and members of the American Legion post joined the congregation in the service, and a flag was presented to the young man’s mother, Mrs. Walter Harmer, by Carl W. Janssen at the close. The Rev. I. Wegner spoke on the text, “We Are Perplexed But Not in Despair.” Special solos were sung by Miss Florence Erickson, member of the choir.
