James Lorence Layman Sr., 72, Indianapolis, died Saturday [August 6, 1994]. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Stirling-Gerber Funeral Home, with calling from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. He had been a heat treater for Naval Avionics Center 25 years, retiring in 1983. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and received three Purple Hearts. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Survivors: Viola S. Gajewski Layman; son, James L. Layman Jr.; daughters, Regina M. Fletcher, Sharon L. Brodnax and Eva L. Ledbetter; brother, John Layman; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
