Joseph James McClurkin, Sr., age 81 years, on Jan. 16, 2004, survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Martha Jane (nee McCarty), his children Kathleen Flynn, JoAnn Else and Joseph J. (Geraldine) McClurkin, Jr., grandfather of 6 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. McClurkin served in the U.S. Marine Corps Edson Raiders [Battalion] during WW II. He was also a Philadelphia police officer for 28 years, retiring in 1979 after 26 years of service to the city. He was a 50-year member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 5, as well as an active delegate for the retired police and the F.O.P. He was also a member of the American Legion Police Post No. 937. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Thurs. 9:30 A.M. The Edward J. Petner Funeral Home (Family Owned and Operated), 6421 Frankford Ave. at Levick St., followed by his Religious Service 11 A.M. Rite of Committal Oakland Cemetery.
