George C. Muir, 85, of Hammond, IN passed away Friday, January 23, 2004 at The Community Hospital, Munster, IN. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy R.; two children, Craig C. (Cristine) Muir of Lafayette, IN and Kathie (Steve) Rollins of San Diego, CA; three grandsons, Scott, Todd and Matt Muir; one sister, Madge (Jim) Bost of North Chatham, MA. Preceded in death by his parents, Duncan and Flora Muir and one sister, Doris Muir.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at 11 AM from Woodmar United Methodist Church, 7320 Northcote Ave., Hammond, IN, with Rev. Paul Arnold officiating. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Monday from 4 to 7 PM at LaHayne Funeral Home, 6955 Southeastern Ave., Hammond, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Woodmar United Methodist Church, 7320 Northcote Ave., Hammond, IN 46324.
Mr. Muir was a resident of this area for 48 years, a retired teacher from Clark High School after 28 years, a U.S. Marine veteran of WWII and a member of Woodmar United Methodist Church of Hammond, American Legion Post #16 of Hammond, Marine Raider Ass’n., Hammond YMCA, Whiting-Robertsdale Kiwanis Club and the Lake County Retired Teachers Assn. He was the sponsor of the school newspaper and the yearbook at Clark High School for 28 years, recipient of a scholarship in Journalism from the Wall Street Journal, voted “Man of the Year in Journalism” by the Northwest Indiana Journalism Seminar and was awarded the Purple Heart.
