Raiders Never Die

Raiders True and Honorary,

My name is Sergeant Jacob Payne. I am a U.S. Marine currently stationed with Recruiting Station Los Angeles. I have served with a Raider Company in 3d Battalion, 1st Marines, under the command of Capt. Chris Gideons, and I want you to know that the current generation of Marines has not forgotten you and your warrior philosophy. In India, the Raider Battalions of WWII have been studied and taught, becoming an inspiring legend as well as providing valuable training. The NCOs of our unit have become experts in raider lore and history, passing it down to the next generation. Though Raider Battalions have become Companies in today's Corps, you are remembered. You are valued. Your philosophies and examples go beyond the battlefield, and even beyond the unit. Even after leaving 3/1, I have implemented the Raider mentality in my career professionally, and more recently outside the Corps in the building and molding of my investigation practice, Independent Operations. Int the Corps, the "India Raiders" have just returned from combat in Iraq, and they performed admirably. I was sidelined here in recruiting, unfortunately, but I remain in close contact with my India brothers. Your exceptional story and ideals will not pass with time, they will be maintained by the next generations that follow your awesome example.
