Mr. William J. Rowe, aged 82 years, a 38-year Havertown resident, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2003 at Delaware County Hospital in Upper Darby, Pa. Mr. Rowe’s passing was very sudden. Mr. Rowe was the husband of Sara T. (nee McDevitt) Rowe. He was the father of William J. (Kelly) Rowe, Jr. of Greensburg, Pa., James (Sally) Rowe of Havertown, Pa., and Gerald (Jean) Rowe also of Havertown, Pa. He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

William J. Rowe was a graduate of the West Catholic High School for Boys class of 1938 in West Philadelphia.

He was employed by Acme Markets as a meat cutter for 45 years. He retired in early 1983. Mr. Rowe worked in many of the area’s Acme stores, however he was employed at the Upper Darby store at State Rd. and Lansdowne Ave. when he retired.

Mr. Rowe was a Marine Corps veteran for four years serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was in the division known “the Raiders.”

He was a longtime member of Annunciation BVM Roman Catholic Church in Havertown.

Mr. Rowe’s hobbies included a love of gardening and a “passion for food shopping.”
