Sgt. Joseph Szakovics of the United States Marine Corps was wounded in action and died of his wounds July 9, 1943. For meritorious service this soldier—a Lethbridge boy in the service of the United States of America from Cleveland, Ohio—was awarded the Purple Heart on Sept. 24, 1943, the award being signed by Col. Frank Knox, secretary of the Navy. Sgt. Szakovics is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Szakovics, 1040 Seventh St. N., Lethbridge, the father receiving from Mayor A. W. Shackleford of Lethbridge an illuminated scroll from Cleveland.
