Longtime local resident Raymond Glen Thompson, 94, died on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Veteran’s Residential Home in Livermore, California.

He was born on Oct. 26, 1919 in Vona, Colorado. He came to the Stockton area in 1936 and made his home here. During his life, he worked as a San Joaquin County Deputy Sheriff, a Correctional Officer at Duel Vocational Institute in Tracy, and later worked for Tillie Lewis Foods in Stockton. He was a rancher in the local area and a retired member of the Teamsters Union.

Mr. Thompson was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Marine Corps. He fought in the Pacific Theater of war as a Marine Raider, one of the first special operation forces of the services.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Bernice Thompson of Stockton; his children, Roberta Augusto (Bill), Wayne Cain (Mary), and Glenda Bailey (Walt), all of Stockton; as well as loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who he enjoyed so much.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann Cain-Misemer in 2005.

The family suggests that memorials be made in his memory to the Escalon Community Ambulance, 1480 Ullrey, Escalon, CA 95320 or the Farmington Fire Department, P.O. Box 73, Farmington, CA 95230.

Services are pending. Arrangements are being handled by Deegan Funeral Home in Escalon.
