A graveside service for Richard Wheaton, 92, of Falkville was Sunday, June 28, at 3 p.m. at East Battleground Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Wheaton died Friday, June 26, 2015, at his residence. He was born Jan. 7, 1923, in Wisconsin to John Martin Wheaton and Blanche Mae Rhoades Wheaton. He was formerly a deputy sheriff for Marquette County, Wisc. He served in World War II in the Pacific theater with the Civil Air Patrol retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He was a member of the U.S. Marines in “Carlson’s Raiders” – 2nd Marine Raider Battalion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Lorene (Warren) Wheaton; a son, David Martin Wheaton; and his parents.
He is survived by a son, Larry Comstock (Jan) of Navarro, Fla.; two daughters, Juanita Hallman (Vick Ball) of Falkville and Elizabeth Lemoine (Frank) of Colorado; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were family and friends.
